Rufino Tamayo Museum – Oaxaca

Rufino Tamayo Museum Oaxaca Mexico

Rufino Tamayo Museum – Oaxaca City

All of the pieces on display in the Rufino Tamayo Museum are rare; the youngest pieces date back to 1521 and the oldest pieces potentially date back to 1,600 BC! Also the pieces were chosen by Tamayo for their originality and the form in which they were manufactured. All artefacts in the museum come from the pre-classic, classic, or post-classic periods, but are not solely pieces from Oaxaca, but rather from all over Mexico. Although Rufino Tamayo frequently used the exhibition halls in the museum to display his own paintings, this isn’t the reason why the museum is considered an arts museum. The Rufino Tamayo Museum is considered an arts museum because the pieces on display there are from over three different time periods. The museum is located in the centre of Oaxaca City only 3 blocks from the Zócalo.
