Chacahua Lagoon – Oaxaca

Chacahua Lagoon Oaxaca Mexico

Chacahua National Park – Puerto Escondido Oaxaca

Chacahua lagoon which forms part of the Chacahua National Park is an important refuge for many endangered marine species. Many of the species that inhabit Chacahua lagoon are endemic to Mesoamerica or Mexico and one of those is endemic to Oaxaca, which is why the Chacahua lagoon and national park is an important ecological research centre.
Chacahua offers a great deal for tourists that visit it because not only is it possible to see so many natural wonders, beautiful scenery and take a boat ride on Chacahua lagoon, but also visit crocodile and iguana farms, visit nearby islands, and relax on beautiful sandy beaches. Restaurants and accommodation are also available in nearby El Zapolito.

Chacahua lagoon is located about 50 miles from Puerto Escondido which is about an hour and a half drive; from Oaxaca City this will be more like 7 and a half hours.
