Resevoirs in Oaxaca
The reservoirs in Oaxaca, as with most reservoirs offer a variety of water based activities. Treat yourself to a boat tour of the reservoirs where you can enjoy the rich vegetation that these masses of water give life to, or maybe even enjoy some fishing. Many of the populations surrounding the Oaxacan reservoirs have adapted to accommodate the resulting flux of tourists, which has led to the diversification of the local economies, which previously were generally oriented towards agriculture.
Benito Juarez Reservoir
Benito Juarez resevoir is located in the Tehuantepec district in the Isthmus region of Oaxaca and is near to the village of Magdalena Tequisistlán. The surrounding area is mainly agricultural and there is also a diverse range of flora and fuana.

El Estudiante y La Azucena resevoir
El Estudiante y la Azucena resevoir is located just outside Oaxaca city just off the road that winds it’s way up to the villages of the Sierra Norte. It is very popular with city folk who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city (particularly at weekends). There are several restaurants nearby where you can lunch and there are also public barbecues next to the reservoir where you can cook your own food.

Miguel Aleman resevoir
The Miguel Aleman reservoir is a picturesque reservoir in the North of Oaxaca that is also home to an important hydro-electric plant. The Miguel Aleman reservoir is a man-made reservoir that upon construction required the rehousing of several indigenous families.

Yoscuta Reservoir and the Lazaro Cardenas Dam
The Yosocuta reservoir is located just outside Huajuapan de león and offers hospitality and some outdoor entertainment facilities as well as fishing. Fishing was actually the motive for the reservoir’s creation and the reservoir is home to fishing competitions in September and October.
