
Benito Juarez Reservoir – Oaxaca
Benito Juarez reservoir was originally built to supply irrigation water for agriculture, utilising the Tehuantepec and Tequisistlan rivers. When the water level is low it is possible to see the top of the temple which formed part of the settlement of Jalapa which was re located when the area was flooded to form the reservoir.
Sightseeing and fishing trips can be arranged with local fishermen. The main sport fishing catch is Mojarra.
Benito Juarez reservoir is located in Santa Maria Jalapa del Marques approx 140 miles south east of the city of Oaxaca.
