Santa Ana del Valle – Oaxaca

Santa Ana del Valle Oaxaca Mexico

Santa Ana del Valle – Near Oaxaca

The small village of Santa Ana del Valle is known for its wool rugs. Like Teotitlán del valle the rugs are 100% hand-woven using pedal operated looms, coloured using all natural dyes, and made from hand carded yarns. For more information about Oaxaca{s rugs and the rug making process, see our ‘Rugs’ page in the textiles section of the handicrafts menu. Santa Ana del Valle also has a small community museum located in the village plaza, and is the first commity museum in Oaxaca. The idea of the community museum is that archaeological pieces found remain in the village and aren’t shipped away to other larger museums. The community museum at Santa Ana del Valle is dedicated to archaeological pieces, the ‘Feather Dance’ (Danza de la pluma), and the village’s textiles. Santa Ana del Valle also has a village market, an artisan market, a childrens museum and a village church.

Santa Ana del Valle is about a 50 minutes’ drive from Oaxaca. If you don’t have a car you can also get there by local bus, colectivo, or take a tour.
