San Marcos Tlapazola – Near Oaxaca
San Marcos Tlapazola, whose name translates as ’Place of the Quail’, is a small rural community that is dedicated to agriculture. The village has a 16th century church and is a village of pottery production. San Marcos Tlapazola produces a pottery that is terracotta in style with varying intensities of red. The pottery from San Marcos Tlapazola has been sold at Tlacolula market traditionally, though it is now becoming available in Oaxaca City too.
San Marcos Tlapazola is located about an hour and ten minutes’ drive from Oaxaca City. Public transport is available from Tlacolula.
